Vijay married London-born Sangeetha on August 25, 1999. It was an arranged alliance. Mrs. Sangeetha Vijay is the daughter of London based Sornalingam and Nirmala. 





Vijay and Sangeetha have two children namely Jason Sanjay, who born in London  on August 26, 2000, and Divya Saasha, born in Chennai on September 9, 2005





He has worked as a playback singer in most of his films. During his career in the Tamil film industry, he has won two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and was nominated for one Filmfare Award. He received honorary doctorate from MGR University for his philanthropic works. He also worked with several corporations as a brand ambassador and is a former brand ambassador of the Indian Premier League cricket team, Chennai Super Kings
